Mercury in Chinatown

Alike most of us in the digital age, I first discovered the music and person of Mercury whilst scrolling through Instagram one late summer evening. I was immediately captivated by the joyful spirit and fearless energy oozing through the screen, permeating through each of the single tracks released by the young, Atlanta-based MC and artist.

Mercury, or Merc for short, has released a dizzying melange of singles over the past year, most notably, the weedy, hi-hat-laced “Slob on my Kat” track, which shows off the rapper’s undeniable flow that even legitimized peers could attest to.

Skateboarding between takes of a video clip shoot for her upcoming single, Mercury took a pause to chat, hang and pose along the narrow alleyways in the heart of Chinatown, NYC. Without pretense or purpose, kicking it in downtown Manhattan during the dog-days of summer releases and relentless joy of spirit, time and place that only an out-of-towner can truly exude. Her excitement is truly contagious: Mercury is poised to be the next big thing in rap music, regardless of gender, age, location or race. Just pure musical goodness. Featured below are some captures from our casual hang downtown. We hope you enjoy.
